Assignment Changes Made
The activity I chose to use for this assignment came from
EDU 609 Online Teaching Internship. It was interesting to revise this
assignment. I had to reread this assignment several times and added a few
additional pieces of information. Already included in the assignment was a
PowerPoint presentation and a list of resources offering text. The PowerPoint
presentation was revised as well. I added some graphics and transitions and
edited the text provided. I added a video for the visual-audio learners. There
is a discussion that is due midweek that I added some additional instructions
and edited the instructions that were kept. Do they just need a nudge in this
direction or that or do I need to address the class and try again. I also
changed the assignment from a word document to a Slide presentation.
Evaluation
There
are a couple of different ways that I am going to evaluate my students
understanding of the information provided. There is a discussion that is due
midweek that will allow me to gauge where my students understanding is at and
how much I need to intervene. Students will post an initial discussion to the
questions that have been asked and will respond to their peers. There is also
an assignment due by the end of the week. Students will have to provide a
PowerPoint presentation covering the material presented. The presentation will
be submitted the course room drop box where there will be additional help in
grading the information, looking for errors such as misspelled words and
plagiarism concerns. These tools can include GradeMark which provides teachers
with instant diagnostic feedback on students’ grammar, usage, mechanics, style,
and spelling, and Accuccess and FlexTest which allow instructors to design
assessments, quizzes and tests (The Latest Assessment Tools, 2001). “Test and
survey tools within learning or course management systems allow for automated
reviews and tests” (Bedard-Voorhees, Johnson & Dobson 2011).
Theory
For
this assignment I used the information processing theory. Information processing
is when students are actively processing, storing and retrieving information, information
processing emphasizes cognitive structures built by the learner. (Instructional
Design Knowledge base, n.d.). Students
need to know this information and will use it in their future education and
career. The information presented here is just the beginning, I did try to find
some different ways of presenting the information to my students and a
different way to present an assignment to the class. Some of the information is
repeated in every source provided but presented in a different way. I am hoping
with the repetition it will stick with students and with the variety I hope
they will engage further into the topic.
